MDT 2008 Update 1: Why isn’t the version showing up

August 13, 2008

After updating your MDT 2008 to Update 1, you may notice that when you click on the Help -> About, the version number it’s still the some previous to Update 1.

This may happen because of cached dll’s.

For solving this issue:
.: Open Registry Editor
.: Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache\@C:\Program Files\Microsoft Deployment Toolkit\Bin\Microsoft.BDD.WorkbenchResources.dll,-105
.: Delete this key
.: Restart the machine

After this, you’ll notice that now you have the correct version showing up.

Caution: MDT 2008 Update 1 may cause some damage

August 11, 2008

Sometimes having lots and lots of work in hands can be very useful (ok, not too many times…) but in this particulary case it does!

It seems like Microsoft Deployment Kit (MDT) team has received a lot of issues over the past few days because of the Update 1 for MDT 2008.

It seems like some deployment point and settings may disappear after this update.
The MDT team has posted some info about it, and the best way to apply this update.

So please follow this link for a step-by-step on upgrading MDT:

2 New Webcasts from Richard Smith

April 4, 2008

Richard Smith, a worker at Microsoft Consulting Services, just launched 2 new webcasts about deployment, at DeploymentForum.com

On the firts webcast, the focus goes to building and deploying images using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2008 (MDT 2008) on a Lite Touch Installation (LTI) scenario:

http://www.deploymentforum.com/Library/Webcasts/Player/tabid/162/VideoId/26/Using-MDT-2008-For-Lite-Touch-Installation.aspx

The second one it’s about using MDT 2008 and Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (SCCM 2007) for a Zero Touch Installation (ZTI) scenario:
